Venom Outdoors was started by Cory Robinson in 2009 with the idea of an adjustable buoyancy bobber while fishing. Cory grew up in Prescott, WI, and has fished extensively on the St. Croix and Mississippi rivers since he was a kid.

Venom fishing floats allow anglers to switch to lighter or heavier baits without switching bobbers. The two-part bobber, which is fully made in America, consists of a plastic sleeve, into which a foam cylinder is inserted. Push it in farther, and the float becomes smaller — and less buoyant. While a more-buoyant float can suspend heavier baits, a less-buoyant one can also be more sensitive, especially for light-biting fish like those caught through the ice. “It’s basic water displacement,” notes Cory. Currently, Venom floats come in two sizes and three colors. The idea for a shape-changing bobber came to Robinson while fishing with a different float one day and seeing an optical illusion. “It was a long, thin Thill bobber, and as it was bobbing up and down, it looked like it was shrinking and getting longer,” he said. “That’s where the idea hit me to come up with a bobber that could change its displacement.”

Following the success of Venom Floats, Cory leaned into his mechanical engineering and design background to add ice fishing and open water fishing lures to his products line, like precision-engineered tungsten glow jigs, flutter spoons, and floats for ice fishing and Colorado & Asymm glow rigs, blades, & beads for open water fishing. In one sense, it is not rocket science that vibration and a glow trigger fish to bite. However, Cory has employed a more technical approach to Venom open water lures combining both vibrations and glow with the Colorado & Asymm glow rigs, and long-lasting glow to ice fishing lures such as Venom jigs and flutter spoons, which glow 10X longer than anything else on the market.
